During a time of the year when consumption is at its highest, we're taking the opportunity to give back. This year, we're planting a tree for every order throughout our Better Sale, November 17-27.
We're partnering with our friends at One Tree Planted, a non-profit dedicated to restoring forests, worldwide. With every dollar, they plant a tree at various restoration sites around the world. Their mission is to restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and make a positive social impact around the world. Since 2014 they have planted over 40,000,000 trees in 47+ countries in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Pacific.
So why trees?
Well aside from creating magnificent landscape and beautiful views, they are an essential part of keeping our planet green and our air clean. But forests are being logged at an accelerating pace across the world putting many fragile ecosystems at risk, and increasing the intensity of climate change. So what is it about trees that make them so special?
Why plant trees?
- Trees are powerful carbon sinks, meaning they are able to remove and hold large amounts of carbon both within the trees themselves, and the soil they live in.
- They absorb harmful pollutants, acting as a filter for both water and air. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- They help to stabilize the land, reducing risks of flooding, landslides, and soil erosion - all of which are threats to global populations and food production.
- Trees are powerful in their ability to support life on our planet, in large numbers as forests they create rich bio systems for creatures of all sizes to thrive - including us humans.
But as powerful as one tree may be, we need a lot of trees in order to feel and see the effects of their rejuvenation and filtering of air. For instance did you know that, on average, it takes approximately 500 trees to sequester the amount of carbon dioxide released in a year by a single vehicle in Canada? Yup, that’s an entire small forest.
This is why we believe it's so important to dedicate time and resource to replenish one of our most sacred tools to keep our planet clean - trees.
